Acupuncture is a treatment derived from ancient Chinese medicine in which fine needles are inserted at certain sites in the body for therapeutic or preventative purposes. It is often used to treat pain conditions such as headache, lower back pain and osteoarthritis, but is also sometimes used in an attempt to help people with conditions ranging from infertility to anxiety and asthma. However, it can also be used preventatively. Either way, the underlying causes of disease are diagnosed and addressed.
Acupuncture is well-known for its ability to treat pain and many other symptoms such as tingling, numbness and stiffness (to name but a few). The nature of the treatment is such that you will feel the benefit immediately, though more treatment may be necessary to stabilise the effect. When the symptoms are less physical and more mental/emotional a slightly different approach is used but the treatment is just as effective.
It is also extremely effective at treating functional disorders, where a balancing technique is used to re-energise organ systems that are not performing as well as they should. These can include any body function, e.g. digestion, immune and nervous systems, respiration/allergies, hormone imbalance, bowels, heart problems and sleep disorders. The process commonly brings with it unexpected benefits such as increased vitality, improved sleep, balanced appetite and greater confidence and enjoyment of life.
Many people also use acupuncture as an adjunctive therapy in assisted conception or to boost fertility, as well as preventatively for conditions such as hay fever. However, you do not need to be suffering from any illness in order to experience the benefits of treatment.
